Just bought a 1976 Apache Ramada

Here we go again. Just finished up a COMPLETE re-build on my 1976 Amerigo TC and the hubby is on his way home with a 1976 Apache Ramada hard side pop up. Am I a glutton for punishment or what? Any tips or pointers about this camper would be appreciated. We are thinking just a partial re-build as the thing seems to be in decent shape. I have read these campers are pretty heavy duty... any comments?
  • I had a '73 Apache Roamer for years. When my ex and I split up, I thought it would be too hard for me to camp with it and traded it for a small travel trailer. Long story, but I'm back to a popup - after dealing with wood rot and rotting canvas in a much more modern popup, I definitely regret trading my Apache.

There was a great Apache forum a few years back. My guess is it's still active. Good luck!

Saw this one recently at a local state park. Not sure the year or model but the family was having tons of fun.

    Yes-

I haven't seen the post announcing which 1976 pickup you've chosen to serve as lead vehicle of this Spirit-of-(19)'76 Parade. :@

I think maybe 76 is my lucky number. I was looking at another 76... trillium egg camper. What are the odds?

My advice is to pass on the '76 Trillium- '78 was the Pinnacle of Production! The Year of The Best! Only year you could get both the deee-luxe table-with-leaf AND the gen-you-wine opening window in the door! The Greatest Trillium ever built, bar none!

And she's mine, alllllllll mine! :B

Really??? I didn't know you had a trillium. You love it eh? I wanna see more pics, because that is seriously the next one I am getting.

  • Our first camper was an Apache hardside. I don't remember the model, but was a big one. The only trouble we ever had was with the chain system that raises and lowers the roof. The gear box stripped a "pin" once and I could not find one. A friend with a machine shop made me one out of an old drill bit. Other than that, we had many fun trips with that old Apache. We even put an air conditioner in it (a small window unit) thru the side of the camper where the porta potty was. Kept us cool as a cucumber. I wish I still had it.

    Some guys collect stamps! ;)
  • Those are great campers. Of course depending on the condition. But a lot of families had some great times in those. The exteriors seems to hold up well. But 40 years later? I don't know. Might need some refinishing. And probably the interior needs cushions and floors.

Anyway, I still love to see those old timers out in the world with kids running in and out of them.
