Contrary to much of what you read. There is in fact a law that requires the manufacturer to post the ACTUAL weight of the unit as it left the factory. The weight is posted prominently on a YELLOW sticker affixed to the inside of the entrance door, and another on the right facing corner of the unit.
On the sticker you will find the exact weight of the unit as it sits in front of you. It was weighed AFTER all options were installed, and includes the weight of the empty propane tanks, and battery. It will also tell you how much weight is added by filling the water tanks, and will tell you the carrying capacity of the unit.
Also IF the dealer adds option that add 100lbs or more. The yellow sticker must be updated to reflect the new weight.
The dry sticker weight is very important for several reasons. You need an accurate dry weight, so you can know how much carrying capacity you actually have. And it is essential to know, so that you can determine the TT you need to use. Because IF the dry weight of the unit is close to the tow capacity of your TV. You will be overloaded by the time you load the unit.
For me the GVW of the unit is useless, other than knowing the carrying capacity of the unit. If it has 2000lbs of carrying capacity. I know I will NEVER reach close to that weight. My sticker dry weight is 4811 LBS, My GVWR is 7200 LBS. So I have 2389 LBS of carrying capacity. AS my TT sits. Loaded ready to camp. It is 1300 lbs UNDER the GVWR. No way will I ever load 1300 more lbs
