I think the K&N filters are successful in sales because most people dont know to change there airfilter or forget to. I like them because I can clean them, oil them and put them back. Guys my experience may be different, but I never had an issue with over oiling them, wear and tear in the engine from to much dirt, or any other issues. I have torn down an engine before that had one on it prior my purchase. The filter did not cause the problem, just the owner neglected the coolant level and blew the head gasket. Regardless I bought it just to fix it up and give it to my sister. The K&N filter was pretty dirty but past that it was clean for the most part. So thats just my take, I there was no signs of wear and tear, and the engine had great compression with mininal loss on leak down testing. However with over 150K I expected it. Anyway if you like them or dont its your money either way. Most important thing: keep the vehicle serviced......
