Really guys?... too bad RV.NET family doesn't have someone who works at FRAM... betcha he/she could clear a few myths up. Fram as the interweb mythology goes is a terrible filter... "don't use Fram" "Fram will destroy your engine"... Fram makes OEM filters for most manufacturers. Ram, GM, Ford, PEP boys etc... give their specs and send em off to Fram to be manufactured. Same as Bilstein, they are a OEM manufacturer. I toured the local refinery (company name rhymes with Imperial/Mobil/EXXON/ESSO) as we entered the canning department we saw not only ESSO brand jugs passing by, but, also saw Shell, Petro Canada, Mobil, Castrol, Canadian tire etc. go by. Does that mean all oil is the same no, but still same base stock with different additives as per customer. Just as you would find at Fram, OEM filter, AFe, K&N, Air Raid, etc. again not all the same but built to customer specs, and we all know the auto manufacturer wants it to be as low cost as possible...so do you think your getting a high quality air/oil filter from Ford, Ram or GM?? You might be getting a decent filter but, high quality? Highly unlikely. But if not installed or changed at required intervals high or low quality ain't gonna make difference.
I used Fram as an example, same could be used for K&N...although Fram does manufacture OEM filters where as K&N is aftermarket.
K&N pays for accreditation, same as most engine oil makers, for that "SAE" stamp/seal...Amsoil doesn't fork over the annual $500,000 for the accreditation seal of approval...so you could say Amsoil is no good either?
Fram air filters are fine, but their oil filters are dreadful. Note: Fram bought LOTS of people new engines when their filters killed Cummins 5.9's!
