The K&N is a high-quality engineered part that quickly pays for itself (besides being superior in flow rate, surface area, and quality) over time. I'm one of those who USES a reusable K&N in a very expensive dyno-tuned fuel-injected bored-throttle-body high-compression application (didn't hear it from some buddy or my mechanic or whatever) with no issues involving dust or thrown codes. I would buy them again over any disposable element component on the market without hesitation - just speaking from experience, mind you. Their company provides plenty of testing data and construction info on their website to show you what your hard-earned money is getting - and why so many professional builders and users trust their expensive engines to the free-breathing K&N products.
