I had K&N on our 8.1 gas engine and dirt was past the air filter. No more for me. Chevman
Totally agree.
When I was younger, I "had to have" a K&N on every vehicle (on- and off-road) I owned.
Then I started to look at the intake tract downstream of the filter...dirty/dusty every single time.
I run OEM filters of my truck now, and every time I look at the intake tract downstream of the filter...perfectly clean.
For my off-road toys, I went with oiled foam filters...and my intake tracts stayed clean
I never blew a motor or anything using a K&N, but dirt getting past the filter isn't good.
IMHO the dirt/dust was probably a function of not oiling the filter perfectly. But I'm the idiot who needs to buy idiot-proof things.
