Keeping Car Battery Charged?

Get a better tender.

If the battery won't start the car after a week, something needs fixing.

I maintain the battery on our tow vehicle with a Vector/black and decker 2/10/25 amp smart charger. I plug it in and leave it connected all winter. I also use it to recharge the camper batteries faster when dry camping (generator power). It has a desulphation mode that has helped the optima agm battery in our tow vehicle last over 10 years so far.
Because you drive the car often, a maintainer with a quick connect plug that you hide in the grill or behind the bumper would allow you to connect and disconnect the charger without opening the hood would be convenient.

First step is clean the battery case. The grimy dirt actually conducts quite well.

If you must have a charger get Battery Minder or Battery Tender brands.

Automatic battery maintainer.

If you drive it every week it should not discharge.

You may miss a few weeks so a small 1-2 amp smart charger as suggested. If longer, consider installing a manual shut off switch.

I have a classic that I use less than once a week; Any good battery will hold a charge for more than a week (assuming you don't have any parasitic electroncis);
I just started mt car last week after it has been sitting since early December.

I have a Stanley brand battery maintainer. got it from Menards for $20. I have it on my X because it sits now and is only driven for trips.

Its good to have and prolongs the life of the battery.
