Just traded out of a Laredo 5th wheel that I had finally gotten set up well for winter boondocking in the Rocky Mountains. Had it down to -15 degrees overnight a few times had had no issues with freezing lines or tanks.The new unit is a '16 Cougar 33SAB with their "Polar Package" which the literature and dealer both say is good down to zero degrees -- I'm skeptical......I did visually confirm that there is an actual vent blowing directly into the underbelly from the furnace, which makes me feel a little better. I've ensured that the enclosed underbelly is indeed sealed all the way around.I'm just curious if anyone has any real world experience with the 'Polar Package'?Thanks in advance!

We have the Keystone Fuzion and stayed in Southern Colorado October and November this past year and had no issues. but as a safeguard you could put some insulation around the pipes to be safe but I would expect no issues.

Mike, you might carefully read the owners manual in regard to what promises Keystone RV is ACTUALLY making about operation in cold weather. I recall several complaints due to salesmen being a bit more ambitious than actually allowed.I think all it really means is that it has a heated belly and some additional insulation. It doesn't certify the RV (guaranteed) to a specific temperature.I'd contact Keystone (not the dealer) and get any certification in writing...No way it'd survive for long in -15... There is a Keystone owners forum where you might find people with direct experience.

The Polar package (at least in my 2010) is a bit of a joke. Some have dual pane windows, but most don't. There is a little heat in the underbelly but not to -15.The forum is keystone.org but it is being a bit flaky right now. Check it out but don't be surprised if it seems slow.

nebmike, Keystone has the Polar Package and the Polar Plus package. The Polar Package offers a heated underbelly and a little better insulation in the slide. The Polar PLUS Package is the one that is supposed to give you the zero degree camping capability. The big round sticker by the door will either say Polar or Polar Plus to let you know what you really have.I just have the standard Polar and camped overnight at +15 degrees and it took electric heat in addition to the furnace to stay warm.

It's usually a nice sticker and the ability to burn propane like it's free. You could heat anything if you run enough propane through it.

I've camped in an old trailer at 0 -> -20 for a week. We covered the windows at night with foam board and burned a lot of propane. The milk and juice froze in the aft storage compartment but we were rather comfortable.

That is the key right there..Each camper is different and needs to be set up for the cold on an individual basis.Some freeze here and some freeze there so it all depends on your unit and how you use it.

I have found skirting and a light bulb do more than any heated holding tanks..At -15 degree's with no skirting/heat pads and your tanks or lines not freezing is an accomplishment for sure.

You should be telling,not asking!:B

Very accurate comment.Had the polar package and think it is just a lot of ado about nothing.

Realistically, they are all three season i.e. down to 32 degrees. Up here in Montana, the dealers even with the enclosed heated underbelly's won't promise all year camping. They call them 3.5 season units. So, instead of 32 degrees, you get maybe 20-25 degrees and the "western" packages and "polar" come with two big propane tanks so you can burn it like it's free as noted above. And I am not towing a trailer when there is a foot of snow on the ground anyway as there was from Dec to start of March here. They really ought to sell those units for Tennessee imho. I guess they could be four season there. It is nice to know its on there, but not essential to me.
