Thanks for sharing your ideas with us! We had the dealer install a set of gas struts under our bed for me. The first set ripped out the plywood, they were to weak to hold things. The second set held into the wood but doesn't really "hold" the bed up as we also have a bed topper. I think we ended up with 40 lbs, I'll have to check my notes on what they were rated. I think we need the next size up, 80 lbs.
If yours hold then I'd definitely like to know the "strength" of yours. If we redo ours there is one thing I know we'll do. Add some sort of support straps on that thin plywood. There just simply isn't enough wood to attach these things to and hold.
