I havent actually tried the table yet. Hopefully it will be stable the way they mounted it. Truthfully I hadn't even noticed that. The way they have it will make getting in and out easier though.
Our legs come just like garysol's from the factory. The tabletop is friction mounted--you simply pull it up off the poles. The poles pull up out of the base the same way.
The table is pretty stable but will wobble a bit if you lean your body weight on one side of it.
