Leave the fridge button on AUTO and plug into power. The fridge and freezer will cool down on electric but just a little slower than on propane. Before you leave unplug from power and the refrigerator will automatically switch over to propane assuming that you have the tanks on. Keep in mind that the outside unit is electric only.
We do it a little differently though. I like to put all the perishables in our cooler so that they do not all fall over inside of the fridge while we drive. While we are driving I have the propane on so the unit is cooling and we simply transfer the food once we get where we are going.
