Keystone Cougar Propane quick connect question

Daughter has a new KS Cougar 5er with the propane quick connect for the bbq. I'm assuming this connection is low pressure propane after the regulator in the trailer; is that correct?

Yeah, that looks like the old Extend-A-Flow tee kit I had on my old trailer. High pressure gas comes off the tanks and you leave the regulator on the bbq. Works great. My Forest River Windjammer came with the quick connect so I removed the regulator on the Q and bought the kit in the link I posted. Calore makes a special one-piece fitting for the Q as shown.

Also, I thought I was posting in the 5er forum and posted here by mistake

Actually, I was going to order this conversion kit for the Weber Q (that's what my daughter has). This is what I used for my Q when I removed the regulator and it worked fine. You just unscrew the regulator and screw on the fitting in this kit. Comes with the hose too in your choice of length. I'm assuming the female quick connect on the Cougar is the same as my Forest River trailer.

  • @ScottG is correct, the pressure should work fine with any small propane appliance, BBQ, etc.

There are at least two visually indistinguishable but totally incompatible quick-connect systems in use for propane on RVs -- and they are also both visually indistinguishable and totally incompatible with the one(s) used for compressed air.

You will have to remove the pressure regulator that comes with any such grill/device, which will limit you to devices that have separate flame control valves and regulators. The only way to tell if the male end and female end are compatible is to plug in and see if you can close/complete the connection without a leak. When I adapted my grill to that connector, I wound up buying both the offered male ends and taking the one back later. It was like $6, so no big deal.
  • The low pressure in those lines will work great with any appliance that runs off of regulated pressure. Everything from a BBQ to a fire pit can be run off it.
Propane appliances all use the same "pressure" regardless of brand. Only the flow differs and that doesn't come in to play here.
  • Yes. Those quick connects on the Keystone Campers are set up to use a suburban cook stove. If you have a different stove, or a BBQ, it might not work well as the main pressure regulator at the trailer tanks might not match the required pressure for a different BBQ grill.

My Keystone Outback has the outside stove with the quick disconnect. There is no pressure regulator on the actual stove as the connection is after the main regulator.

If you want a separate line for an external BBQ with its own regulator, then you are best to a T at the propane tank. One side of the T goes into the regulator for the camper, the other side does not. You can use it to attach anything you want with it's own regulator that way.
  • Yes, it's low pressure.
There are a couple of different designs for those quick couplers. If one combination doesn't work then you may have to change the fitting on the RV.
