KING tailgater second edition! pj

A new version of the popular tailgater for DIsh is out from KING.

KING

I am looking at this unit for my rooftop install on the TC rebuild. No power cord needed as it runs thru the RG6 cable. MSRP $379 should be a bit cheaper on the street! Better than spending the $1100 for a similar roof unit. I think KING has set this up for both worlds, portable and roof.

  • I saw those at the local rv shop the other day
Nice that they moved the handle down out of the path of reception and provided a way he mount it , I already modified my tailgater so I could mount it
The tailgater is really convenient and a great dish for Dish HD , but can be a pain in any type of bad weather , you loose the HD sat 129 in light rain , all due to the tiny dish size , ask anyone whose taken one apart , the dish is only about 3 or 4 inch in diameter
  • Yes, we'll continue with the Tailgater we bought last fall for the aforementioned tree reasons. We've set it on the roof, hood, picnic tables, large flat rocks, chair ladder rack besides just on the ground. Use a velcro strap to secure it to ladder or roof rack to prevent it blowing off there. One time we set up on a table found a skinny hole between tall trees and it worked! Really tall trees on the south facing direction up close not so much, only once. A Dish tech that worked with these things a lot says you can actually use a barrel connector/splicer and add up to another 50' of cable and his worked fine that way. I'm looking into the connectors that screw on the cable then slide into the connection to not have to screw those ends on every time. Don't know about the strength of signal thru those but should be a cheap enough thing to test.

Nice looking unit. But since we often park in treed areas I will have to continue to use my old portable Tailgater (which also does not require a separate power cord) so that I can move it to where ever there is an opening thru the trees.

    Love mine.

Here in the Pacific NW, it's nothing but trees. Sometimes I can't even get a spot to set it that's clear, much less where i park. It is cool that they now include the mount, though.

  • Nice looking product (and price). its a shame it only receives the Western Arc (110/119/129 deg).
There is a section of America here on the right coast that needs to view the Eastern Arc. (61.5/72.7/77 deg)

Still only Winegard Pathway X2 does this. X2 says do not mount permanently mount on roof, I would like to be able to throw it on roof while using it (harder to steal) but I think they say it moves in 35mph wind (we go to beach a lot).

I would love to hear from others that have found a way to secure it on roof while sitting still.
