Know your height and pay attention

Yup! I could not agree more!

Not only for truck campers, but every type of RV on the road. The emphasis is on weights and length of RV's. But height is often overlooked.

I ran into a low overpass only once, in South Carolina. I caught the sign out of the corner of my eye, just a flash. It was a warning for a low overpass about 7 miles ahead. I couldn't remember my actual height. Actually stopped, when back (walked) and looked at the sign. Then got the original paperwork out of my camper and reviewed the original specs, looking for the manufactured height. Yep. Too tall. Was able to turn around and then had to figure an alternate route around it.

Lesson learned. I've since never forgotten my height and am much more keenly aware of low hanging stuff now too!

To often we measure our RV's by length. A truck camper is not long at all. It may overhang the back of the pick-up a couple feet, and can be taken places where Motor Homes, TT, and 5ers can never go. But there is still, and always will, be limitations where you can travel based on the height of the RV! Always!

I agree! Know your height and be conscious of it all the time!

I got a reminder to look up when pulling around the house. The cable/internet line let me know.

My problem is remembering, after learning the height.

I wrote the figure on a sticky label and stuck it on the inside of the glove box door.

At 11'9" my camper would not clear that bridge.
What I don't know off the top of my head is how tall my camper is in meters.

In our travels we sometimes encounter old bridges - weight limits are important too.

On my previous conversion, even it was less than 12' tall - PO had engraved plate riveted to the dashboard telling the height.
Looking at the video - only about 1 of 10 drivers of tall trucks slow down before low overpass.
Others were probably texting.

I was wondering the same thing. If they had a radio blaring they may not have noticed. I know I can hear plates falling from the cabinet in the camper, but if it was a TT, I can see where you could lose an AC and not notice.

I have my height posted on my 5 th Wheel on each side of front and on pin box. See at least 1 of them every time I look in my mirrors. Always reminded.

I've seen bridges in Metro Chicago that were 10' high.... Chicago is noted for low underpasses.... One reason I have a P'up. clearance is not an issue. My old Lance on my truck was 13' to the top of the ac unit.

I bet the closest shop to the underpass in the video makes a fortune repairing those 'close encounters'....lol
