I have a Lance 1030 on a 1996 dodge 2500. I've weighed the truck and camper at the local farm store. With a full tank of water but no food or clothes it's right at 3600 lbs. I'm under my rear tires rating by 500 lbs. My truck has the camper package so it came with upper overload springs and anti sway on the front and rear. I've added torklift stable loads and Bilstein shocks.
The truck handles the weight okay. I've never felt unsafe but I've also not tried going more a couple hours from home.
There's a guy on here with a 2004ish Chevy 2500 with the same camper who has been all over this wonderfull country.
Guess I'm saying it's okay to do what you want. Just letting your know what I've done.
