Lance 1191 - New 110 Volt Outlet

I would like to install an additional 110 Volt outlet as indicated (on the step to the bunk. I am assuming that I can access 110 Volts behind my fuse panel, but I'm not sure where to tap in I'd like to use one of the existing breakers.

Location for proposed outlet

What's under the step to the bunk

Suggestions?

  • When Dremel tools think for themselves, you can get a slightly oversize plate that will cover that thought. Probably Home Depot or Lowe's but if they don't, any electrical supply house will have it. Like $1.00 or so ... cheap.
  • Thanks, gentlemen. I suppose I took everyone's advice and tapped into the line which powers the GFI. Yes, that's a bit of an over cut on the bottom of the plate cover. The Dremel tool tried to think for itself for a second. It's one of those personal touches I seem to add on occasional projects. Behind the outlet is my liquor cabinet. My only worry is that the protrusion of 4 or 5 square inches will ruin my upcoming camping trip.

  • What is the 'Right here' cabinet butting against, looks like more cabinet-does it lead to where another plug is?
If theres another receptacle close, Id probably tap it.

Would be easy enough to pull output line from a breaker, route to small junction box, add a short piece back to breaker for feed, and a new line going to new receptacle.

Because of window proximity either adding ground fault or connected down stream of existing one might be good.
  • I would say that you have a couple of options. It looks like you have a number of 110v circuits (romex) going into the back of your panel that could potentially be spliced into with a box. Or, check to see if there are any spare circuits or space for an additional breaker in the panel.
  • Why don't you add it to the ground fault protected recepticle circuit that already exists. That way the circuit breaker in the panel would protect it too.
