Lance 820 and Generator

I have a 2005 Lance 820 which I bought a couple of months ago. It has a 2500w factory installed generator. It fires right up but I never really tested it until today. Started it up and.... no electricity to my outlets. The breaker switch on the generator was off, I flipped it on and... still none. I have never had a built in generator. What am I missing? I imagine there is a switch or something, maybe a fuse but for the life of me can't find it. Thanks for any help you can send my way.
  • I did a little searching today. I do not have a plug for it. I have an automatic relay under the sink that has a circuit board that apparently goes bad at times. I need to test it tomorrow. According to the manuals it should power on in 45 seconds to 2 minutes of firing up the generator. Wish me luck.
  • It may seem a silly question but have you verified the outlets function on shore power, your unit has a GFCI on one of the outlets that will kill power to all of them.
According to your manual if the Genny was a factory install there is a control unit tied to the main power panel that is supposed to automatically power the unit from the Genny if shore power is not available.
If your unit was generator ready but none was installed at the factory you have to plug your shore cord directly into the Genny as another person stated earlier.
  • On my 2009 845 with factory installed Onan generator, there is a generator plug in the shore power cord storage compartment that I must plug the shore power cord into for the generator to power the camper.
  • I can't do a picture tonight. I did not see a plug either. I looked for plugs that looked like they were undone or open receptacles and didn't see any. I will have to take another look in the morning.
  • Hi, did you plug your shorepower cord into the generator plug?
  • There are several systems so you will have to check it.
Most advanced has automatic switch-over, that might fail.
Less advanced system will have an electric outlet on generator, where you plug your shore cable.
    How about some pictures?
  • Look at the panel for your shore power breakers, is there a switch marked Gen? also where is your shore cord connected? Is there any switching there?
I just looked Lance has that owners manual available on their website.
