lance 820 remodel

I've done a lot of mods to my lance over the years. Most ideas are from other people here. They have been very helpful in making my camper, my own. Ive posted one other idea quite a few years back on using a honda eu2000i in the generator compartment. Has been working great. The latest thing we wanted was a larger camper for our growing family. Then we saw how much a new camper is, and well... not gonna happen. So the idea was to remodel our current camper to suit our needs. we have a 2000 lance 820. great camper, a little, well...little. the idea was to cut out the "U" part of the dinette to create more floor space. OMG, we should have done it years ago!! Our camper has so much more space. We can walk around each other!! I also re did the floor because our old floor was showing signs of age. the floor was quite easy, just vinyl squares from the local hardware store. Cut them with tin snips and electrician scissors. and place down. removing the dinette was also very simple, everything was just screwed in place. remove screws and done. The only part that was a bit scary, was the cutting of the dividing wall. but ended up also being easy. Here are a few pics.
  • I had an 2000 820 and wish I had thought of this mod, great job and thanks for sharing! I really did not like the 'U' shaped dinette. Mine had the built in propane generator, what a racket that made :M

  • Here is the pic from the bed down. Hope this helps. This was a very easy remodel.
  • I don't suppost you could take a picture of the dinette area mod from the cab over so we could get a little better view of this great mod...?

Thanks from a fellow 820 owner

  • Nice job. A little extra floor space can really open things up in a camper.
I like your Honda 2000 mod. I wish i could do something similar for my 1161, but the gen compartment is too small.
  • Ya, I did end up with a "L" shape dinette. It works great! I can not use the dinette as a full size bed anymore, but my little girl (9) sleeps on it without any complaints.
And here are a few pics of the gennny, gen, generator compartment I'm using a honda eu200i in a semi permanent installation. I've used it like this for 6 or 7 yrs. no problem. The exhaust does not go into the wheelwell. And it does not get hot. With the vent in the front. I also installed a homemade extended run tank. The hose is long enough to take it out and fill on the ground. The generator never leaves the compartment.
  • Am I seeing it correctly, you ended up with a "L" shaped dining area?

  • I've that about that in my '01 820. I'm gonna have to show the wife now. Although we kinda like the "U" it just takes up sooo much space. That looks really good.

I've heard mention of a gen compartment but I can't begin to think of where a gen would fit. Where is the gen compartment? I'm guessing it's the bin behind the ladder but that just seems too small.
