With sufficient tires he will be fine. I have carried a lot more weight than an 820 on a 1/2 ton LWB setup with overloads and rated tires.

Breaking the law - Give me a break! No one has been stopped or weighed on the side of the road carrying a camper when the truck and camper looks normal traveling down the road.

Now if his rear bumper was throwing sparks while traveling - different story!

Overload prohibition
19.11 (1) Unless operating under the provisions of an overload permit issued under the Commercial Transport Act, no person shall operate or cause to be operated a vehicle that is loaded in such a manner that the gross weight carried by any axle exceeds the gross weight rating for that axle as specified by the vehicle manufacturer, or the gross vehicle weight exceeds the gross vehicle weight rating for that vehicle as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

(2) The weight distribution of a bus shall be such that not less than 25 per cent of the gross vehicle weight is on the front axle when measured on level ground.
(3) Subsection (1) does not apply to a vehicle
(a) manufactured before January 1, 2001, and
(b) having a gross vehicle weight rating of 5 500 kg or less.

i live in b.c.at least once a year i drive through a fish/game check.police,conservation officers check the camper,boat, truck. my f 150 was always"over the weight rating".my boat isn't even registered.not once did the "weight police"ever say a word about it.i've been doing this for over 30 years.i'd really like to hear more about the so called weight police because i've never seen them or met anyone who has been checked by them.my last camping trip ,my neighbor had an f150 with a 9.5 adventurer on it.talk about overloaded.he had it on for several years.obviously never busted by the weight police.i'd really like to hear from the horses mouth.

Kinda makes it interesting to cite a law and not know where or what it is. Certainly difficult to have a discussion on it.

I will also point out, dvl dog in in the USA, not Canada.

I have seen many post stating what is and what is not legal on weights. For a couple of years, we had LEOs what posted there were no laws in the USA on RV weight. Many of us have ask the same question when someone makes the statement "it's the law". Show the source, preferably where it is located in the Vehicle code book. If you cannot do that, please state you think or heard it is a law.

I do think it is important for each of us to equip our rigs to suit our individual comfort level. It is certainly okay to follow the suggestions on the door decals, but not okay to say its the law. We have been over this so many times. Cite which law.

I do not know what the law is I do know that the department motor transport up here in Canada will weigh you if the think you are overloaded if you are overloaded they can give you a fine and make you unload the vehicle down to its gvw. It seems to me if you have an accident due to being overloaded you are still held responsible, check with your highway patrol you might get good info from them.

Please cite the law that would be broken.

I think you will be fine, just make sure you aren't overloading your tires. If your backend sags get airbags. If your rig teeters back and forth get heavier shocks.
