I do not know what the law is I do know that the department motor transport up here in Canada will weigh you if the think you are overloaded if you are overloaded they can give you a fine and make you unload the vehicle down to its gvw. It seems to me if you have an accident due to being overloaded you are still held responsible, check with your highway patrol you might get good info from them.
I will also point out, dvl dog in in the USA, not Canada.
I have seen many post stating what is and what is not legal on weights. For a couple of years, we had LEOs what posted there were no laws in the USA on RV weight. Many of us have ask the same question when someone makes the statement "it's the law". Show the source, preferably where it is located in the Vehicle code book. If you cannot do that, please state you think or heard it is a law.
I do think it is important for each of us to equip our rigs to suit our individual comfort level. It is certainly okay to follow the suggestions on the door decals, but not okay to say its the law. We have been over this so many times. Cite which law.
