Lance 865, what to do with dinette table when making bed?

When making the dinette into a bed it has a separate piece that goes into making the bed where the dinette is located. What am I supposed to do with the table top? The Lance 850's table converts into the bed/leaf support but my 865 is different and requires a separate piece.

I like the size of the table in the Lance 865, but the table top just taking up space in the camper is insane.... Am I doing something wrong?

My dealer doesn't seem to know. They only had 2 Lance 865's the rest were 850's.

I have also called Lance corporate and haven't heard anything back...

  • A lifetime ago, we had a tent trailer and the table was in the way of getting to the kid's bed. We screwed 4 little pieces of webbing on the bottom of the table and put a grommet in each, and got little screw in twistlocks that we put into the ceiling. The table was there when we wanted to eat inside or play games, but it wasn't in the way the rest of the time.
  • New here, hope this might help. We have a 2010 Lance 850 that also uses a separate piece to make the dinette bed base (not the table). This is stored in the overhead cabinet when not in use.
We bought a wire closet rack and installed it about 3 inches down from the ceiling (a little over the thickness of the table and leg support piece) in the overhead cabinet and keep the filler board there during the day. At night, we let the overhead cabinet down (the front completely open) take out the filler board, put the table on the wire rack (which will not now shut due to the table width) make up the dinette bed, and use the open overhead cabinet to put clothes and stuff on that we take off and/or will be wearing in the morning.
The rack is just attached at the sides and along the back with no support arms along the front. The filler board is very light up there for traveling and this has held up well. The table itself is heavier but, when stored up there, we are not traveling.
This takes up very little of that cabinet's space and leaves the storage area free of braces or laying the filler board on top of stuff.
  • The tabletop is wider than the bed piece so you can't put it in the overhead storage above the dinette... I guess a picture is worth a thousand words. We bought the 865 because we loved the u dinette style seating. We have a little one and we don't want him sleeping with us all the time in the overhead queen bed. So I was trying to figure out what to do with the table top. I guess the truck cab is a good idea for now.

    Thanks fella's.
  • Where does the piece that fits in to make the bed come from? It has to have a place to store it or you'd be tripping over that too.

I would expect the tabletop fits where the bed piece came from.
  • When I had my 865 I would throw the table top in my truck cab to keep it out of the way. The dinette setup was the least favorite part of the 865 when I used it, otherwise it was a great camper. We only used the dinette bed twice the 3 years we owned it so it wasn't a big deal.
  • My table stores on its side (vertically), at the back of the "U" created by the dinette seats?

On edit: I should add that if your table DOESN'T store someplace neatly and out of the way - then I'd build a table that does? It's not like TCs have all this random space..... ;-)
  • 2014 model.

Can't slide it under mattress. It has a round adapter that would hurt quite badly if laid on. Plus foam mattress wouldn't be even. It would have a lump in it.
