Eric, the platform I think you are referring to looks like the one is the pics here . The table pedestal mounts to it .

If so , its the same as I have in my 845. The lid has screws to hold it in place. I removed them and found an empty space that I now use for storage. The entire box is vacant, its good to store extra long tin foil and plastic wrap etc .
