When dealer installed ours they mounted pretty low and back. Kind of a pain. When I added aux plug placed it higher, much easier to connect, but not enough to move the original.
I stop about 18" gap, plug in, verify lights and camper square to bed and usually drop the front to within an inch of floor before fully backing under. Depth between bed walls will dictate how high you can go plus reaching under bed rail.
