Lance on a flatbed, as a counterweight

Could be...hard to know without numbers. I just noticed that the front end looks like it's raised up, so some weight has been taken off the steering/braking wheels.

Is there a place to get the minimum recommended front axle weight for each vehicle? That seems like useful information.

The Lance is entirely forward of the rear wheels. This means the front axle is at the very least some amount heavier than stock empty and probably a LOT of weight on the front axle. The only thing that can take weight off the front axle is stuff rear of the rear axle, which is the portion of the flatbed and the weight of the 5th wheel hitch and load on it.

I would guess without the fifth wheel trailer, the truck plus camper is something like 6,000 pounds on the front axle and 5,000 on the rear axle. I don't know how much weight that trailer would add...you think this is a 19,500 GVWR truck? If so, they could only have around 8,000 pounds payload left.

No worries. They normally drive with 20 Clowns in the cab which acts as a counter weight! ??

I like the idea of a porch, though. With a light enough trailer (and probably a longer wheelbase), it could be pretty cool.

I guess this answers a bunch of questions about can I put a camper on a flat bed, and can I pull a trailer for extra storage behind the camper, all in 2 pictures. Sarcasm off.
Fortunately the members get better advice on the forum than the carnies got!

Hmm, had I see this before we started our flatbed camper build, I might have joined a carny.

Am I seeing a slight downward curve on the flatbed over and after the rear axle?

Do you think the hood opens all the way to check the oil ? , and if you woke up in a snow storm could you push two feet of wet snow out of the way, lol.

That has to be a relatively light trailer being pulled. They are way to far past the axle for a heavy trailer.
