LED lights. On Awning Tube or under roof???

Considering outside LED lights this summer. I want to purchase one of those strips off of ebay. I have noticed that some have installed right into the roller tube yet others install underneath the roof... is there a preference to one or the other? anyone with experience prefer one? im just wondering which one gives off more light and looks better? thank you...
  • Another advantage of mounting on the wall under the awning, is there is a good chance you can wire directly into the porch light or punch thru the wall to get to the power switch for the porch light inside.
  • Yep, to the side of the RV, just under the awning. That way, when the awnaing is open, it blocks some of the light coming off the lights and blinding your neighbors. It still gives you plenty of light underneath the awning.
  • I put my first set on the roller tube after a year of being rolled up in Texas humidity the waterproof ones no longer worked. Second set i stuck to the trailer with a wifi controller so I could use my phone to control them. Michael
  • A couple years ago I bought a 16' strip with Wireless remote off eBay for less than $30. I attached mine to the roller and it worked well for about 2 months until the pig tail wiring adapter at the end of the strip broke (where you plug the power wiring into). No replacement parts available so I removed and threw it away.
I recommend staying away from the cheap ones.
  • I don't know how you'd mount them on the tube. The wiring would be a mess when you cranked it up. Mine are mounted to the side of the trailer, right under the awning.
