led lights

Been using my a camper for skiing the last 3 weekends and really like the led lights I put in.Sure cuts down on battery usage with the long nights.Have set up the old camper to as light power as possible.
The new fridge only needs power for the lighter. And the furnace is old school heater(no fan) works fine at minus 17c. Will build a better unit in a year or two.

  • It takes someone who has used the old style lights,to appreciate the LEDS
  • There is a rather lengthy thread (16 pages so far) here.

One of the things covered is the RFI problem with the regulated LEDs.

Other things in the thread are photos of various LEDs with different color temperatures.
  • I installed LED lights in my motorhome too. I liked them so well that I ordered some more 24 LED panels and installed them around the house at a friend's place. They run on a used 12 volt battery and 90 watt solar panel.

For my house, I plan on installing a few LED panels and run them from a pair of 120 watt solar panels. This will be stored in a pair of golf cart batteries, and run several lights. I plan on converting a floor lamp by installing 4 or 6 of the LED panels in it. Also I can power 12 volt items such as the answering machine directly from the 12 VDC power instead of using the small power converters they are running from today. To bad that most flat screen Tv's use 14 to 19 volt adapters to run them. Yes they plug into 120 volt wall receptacle, but then use a DC converter to make 14 to 19 volts that the TV set actually runs on.

LED's are wonderful energy savers! I have changed several of my home lights to LED's and some to CFL's. This will save a bunch of money each year.

  • Did this mod a couple years back and it's been wonderful not fretting about how many lights are on or for how long. Batteries don't even know there on as they have virtually no impact on overall amphour consumption. Required genny run-time to recharge battery bank nearly chopped in half.
  • Just please make sure you use a carbon monoxide sensor with that old heater.
My BIL lost his brother that way (while sleeping in an old TC).
  • Oh yeah. I went to led's and it made a huge difference. I'd like to buy an old school type truck camper heather but the new replacement models now use 12 volts. I guess one could be found at a junk yard but......

My next best option is a wave catalytic.
  • I tried the LED's and liked them so well I retro fitted every interior light in the trailer. Now when we are dry camping I have no worries if one of my kids leaves a light on. Run cooler, use less power, brighter light, seems to be a win win.
