- HannibalExplorerMy vehicle registration for the TT says 33'. Jayco says 32.5'. The 28RLS model name I'm sure is to not scare people away who may have decided they don't want to tow more than 28~ft. They all do it. Some manufacturers really exaggerate how long their travel trailers aren't.
- parkmanaaExplorerafidel, did you ever hear of pulling doubles, such as an RV trailer with a boat hooked behind it?
Wouldn't you think in that case a Highway Patrolman would be concerned with the length of the RV as a part of the total length of your rig, as you may very well be exceeding the overall rig limit ???? - afidelExplorer II

Everyone seems to have his/her opinion on this, but the LEGAL measurement of a RV is TIP-TO-TIP (it's shadow at high noon).
Ask a friendly highway patrolman sometime.
What possible concern would patrol officer have for the length of a trailer? The only regulations I'm aware of concern the total length of the package, tow vehicle plus trailer as connected. - Mine varies depending on site length ;)
- Jayco-noslideExplorerSize does matter to some. For example used to park a 5th wheel in our driveway. A real pain to back one of any size in and a couple of feet too long would block our path to the garage. When looking for one I constantly fought salesmen or private owners telling me an inaccurate length. Starting carrying a tape to measure form rear spare tire to very front of hitch.
- RobWNYExplorerPeople measure their campers so many different ways. I measure the whole camper. I've never been to a campground though and just camp in an open field because I can't find one that can accommodate the size of our camper. It measures just over 98 feet.

When someone says they have a trailer that is, for example, 21 feet long, do they mean the total length from tongue to bumper, or the box length?
When someone states the length of their trailer, it is most likely the factory advertised length because most people have never measured the trailer they own.
I guess you would have to ask the person. I can tell you the factory length or the true length because I have measured mine.
What is your factory length? What is the true length?
The factory called my trailer a 19' trailer but the total length is 24' - nhg43ExplorerMy Vengeance 25V is listed and sold by the length from the tongue to rear bumper of 30 feet six inches.
- goducks10ExplorerEvery MFG web site I read looking at trailer specs gives you the length from coupler to rear bumper. Why would anyone want to just use the box length? You need to account for the tongue regardless of where you go.
