We've had a pop up for a few years that I'm selling this spring. We initially intended to replace it with a travel trailer but we've switched gears to a fifth wheel instead. The main reason is my wife really wants a separate quad bunk space for our three kids and a queen room for us, and any travel trailers I've found with this layout are simply too long. The one exception being a KZ something-er-other that had a queen slid out the back end, but it didn't have a side slide which is another requirement for us. With a fifth wheel you can get that layout in a shorter overall package. There are other advantages too, but that's the big one for us.
Some have mentioned bed caps. My solution to that was a softopper, which takes about five minutes to put up or fold down and remove. It's worked great on family trips so far when we need to storage and a weather protected space to put the dog kennel, but is super easy to remove when it comes time to hitch the fifth wheel. Not a perfect solution, but a good solution in our situation.
OP, if you're even considering a 5th wheel I'd go with a HD truck. They don't really cost any more and the newer ones are very comfortable as daily drivers. I've been exceedingly happy with my Ram in the last 7 months and going on 8000 miles.
