A suspension heavy enough to handle 3,000+ lbs of payload has to be stiffer or it's going to sit on the stops when loaded. Either way, it ain't going to be "comfortable". I have an F250, I wish I had an F150. I certainly wouldn't describe the ride as un-comfortable, but is surely is not "comfortable". It is what it is - "stiff", and you feel the bumps.
OP, if you're even considering a 5th wheel I'd go with a HD truck. They don't really cost any more and the newer ones are very comfortable as daily drivers. I've been exceedingly happy with my Ram in the last 7 months and going on 8000 miles.
You feel the bumps more than you do in a half ton but I don't find the ride remotely uncomfortable, on or off-road. To be honest I prefer it to the way a half ton rides and handles, which these days is pretty much like a crossover. It's a subjective thing I guess.
