Letting the grey water out a bit to extend it's use?

I had an accident once where the gray tank drained at the site. I think it was about 10 to 15 gallons. It smelled horrible and attracted so many flies that I had to fill buckets of water to wash the site. It was a different smell than the black tank smell but very unpleasant just the same.
