homedad, Gray water does seem to smell far worse than black water. May be because we use laundry detergent (Gain because it cheap)in the black tank.
I have seen campers pull out of the dump stations with their valves open. One time I was following one and called the Ranger. The Ranger caught the guy and witnessed the spewing when he rounded a curve. I'm not sure how much the ticket was, but most likely didn't make the driver very happy.
