Leveling truck camper question

I won't argue with that premise. Thinking about getting the Quik-Load upgrade for my HJ's. 98 bucks for 4. Lookes to be an exact copy of the Fast-Guns with the HJ lower unit attached.

Once I out the camper on the truck (it's on now), it stays on all summer.

I guess it depends on how long and how often you take them loose. Mine are about $30 a year, so far in 11 years of use. ;) That's cheap for me.

In as much as I don't use Fast Guns or Quik Loads, I loosen my standard HJ's. Thinking about getting Quik Load upgrade kit though. Fast Guns are way too expensive.

I wouldn't use jacks unless I loosen my Fastguns. In that case, it will work, but I never have done it with TC on truck once I carried enough blocks.

While camping at Patrick's Point State Park last week, I needed eight inches to level the camper. I could have used the rear Jack's but then I'd have to remove everything out of the fender wells. So I used several wood blocks to get it close. I then put the front Jack's down to minimize the rocking.

If the campsite is generally flat then here is my sequence of steps:

1. Assuming front to back is close enough to level side to side I let air out of one side of the airbags on the truck. That gets me an inch or two left to right and solves the problem probably 70 percent of the time and it only takes a couple of seconds.

2. The next go to method is to drop the jacks and attempt to level with them but only if it is an inch or two either side (I don't bother to undue the tie-downs because I'm not raising it off the bed).

3. If either of these two methods won't work for the site in question, out come the yellow Lego blocks.

Most of my travels have been to locations where I can get away with minimal effort through the steps above. I do have plans to purchase more leveling blocks (I think I have 10) because there have been times where I wasn't able to get high enough by a couple of inches.

I've never even thought about storing stuff there! How do you tie everything down?

I carry three yellow stepped wedge blocks from Camping World and very rarely use the jacks. Works unless you are wayyyy off level. The wedge blocks have two levels: two inch and four inch. Works except in the most extreme conditions. Or, as the saying goes, close enough.

I use both.. I level the truck and camper with wood board sections (I'm too cheap for commercial lego's) and drop the jacks for stability (I don't like a rocking camper, having spent the better part of 20 years sleeping in a big truck bunk that always wiggles around....

If the spot is fairly level (according to my torpedo carpenters level), I'll use the jacks only (so long as I don't have to lift the camper more than the suspension travel of the loaded truck because I want the camper in contact with the bed at all times. If it's out of level a bit, I use my wood board/blocks and then set down the jacks for stability. Either way, I always release my tie down's.
