License plates from truck to TC and back again, and again.

I like to unload my camper at the CG and go for what ever reason. I will need to remove the rear plate from the camper and mount it back onto the truck. I called my local DMV and asked if I could get a third license plate for my camper. The lady said "nope, they only come in pairs".

I was wontering what may be an easy fix, if any, for when I drop my camper and want to go. Maybe unscrewing the the two screws is no big deal and I am getting overly anal about making things easy. I was thinking of using my front plate (we have two here in Minnesota)but would like to hear from other to see if they have found a clever way of doing this.

  • On my toad I have the electric and brake hook ups under the front license plate. So I have to remove the front plate every time I hook up and replace it when I unhook. I just ran the screws in and out of the mounted nylon nuts until they loosened up enough that I can remove them by hand, no tools required. I snug them down finger tight and they have never loosened up on me. Going on 5 years.
  • In Washington State the Truck camper has its own registration and plate.
  • when i off load my tc,i always forget to put my plate back on my dually, sorry, distracted by san jose kicking my canucks xxx....my tc is considered cargo in bc
  • it takes all of two minutes to swap plates even if you have a beer in one hand.
  • No you can't have a third plate. Can you imagine the potential for abuse, it would drive the state troopers nuts.:B Does one plate have an expiry decal on it? If so you would need to display it correctly.
Edit: I think the quarter turn fasteners would make theft too easy.
  • You may be able to use the 1/4 turn fasteners that are used on access panels on the camper.
