Camper dry weight is typically figured without such things as jacks, turnbuckles, tie downs, air bags, compressors, generators, awnings, steps and ladders, air conditioners, inverters, extra batteries, and any furnishings or equipment that are listed as optional in the manufacturer's brochure. It's very easy to add items that will increase dry weight 1500 lbs. Just adding jacks, turnbuckles and tie downs, A/C, an awning, and a generator could easily pump the dry weight up 600 lbs. Dual batteries and an inverter add another 100 lbs. Let's not forget cookware, utensils, groceries, bedding, books, tools, clothing, first aid and emergency equipment, and that big screen TV. All of these items are pretty typical of most campers, so if your truck can carry 2800 lbs, and you want to run it that way, best to look for campers that have a dry weight more like 1200 lbs dry. Don't forget that things you put in your truck like people, dogs and fuel also count against the weight you can carry.
