Listening to the diesel hum

This one is just for fun.

How many of you diesel owners mute the radio just so you can listen to your motor hum? I will sometimes, 12 years of owning one and it never gets old. I think sometimes its talking to me - clack clack clack...lets go pull something...clack clack clack...is that all you got?....clack clack clack..I want more..clack clack clack...

I'm just being silly I know.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I know what you mean, used to do that with my old one.

  • Mine talks to me more when I just start it up in the cold morning after the block heater has warmed up.

The engine starts quick and fast, but slows to a crawl in it's attempt to get going. It's at that time it is saying to me, Oh........let...me...sleeep....a little.....longer.

Yes I loved the sound of the turbo on my Ford 6.0L. It was an early 2003 model and the turbo whistle was really loud and cool!

I like the sound of my Cummins too but I can barely hear any turbo whistle in the cab even when the truck is working hard.

Uncorked 6litres are some of the sweetest sounding trucks!

So who rolls their windows down in tunnels or underpasses and mats the go pedal to hear that straight pipe roar?
    ^This guy.
I can tell my Cummins likes to be worked. It's quieter when it's running under load.
Unloaded, screamin 2200- 2500rpms plus down the highway empty makes all kinds of racket. Same rpms and speed hooked to a trailer or camper on quiets it down a fair amount.
  • I like the way my Cummins sounds. Good balance between quiet but still a little classic diesel clatter.
  • I love the sound of my two trucks:

2007 C4500 Chevy Duramax.... sounds like pure power especially once the turbo kicks in.

    1986 C35000 Chevy with 454 Gas
equipped with headers and flowmaster mufflers... Sounds like rolling thunder. It sets off car alarms as I drive through underground parking lots.

  • I like the sound of my 8.3 Cummins, but I didn't like my 7.3 PSD. Really loud.
