little help

First off i would like to thank all of you for the help. i have used this forum for research. for the last 4 years been enjoying life in my pop-up. i am in the processes of buy a htt. i have been looking at a trailer for about 3 months ( many Many trip to the dealer with question that i have found on this site.) the only thing that i have found that dont seen right is when i lower the bunk down for the first time there was ice and water traped in the bunk. the dealer has told me that the water is from them cloesing the bunk with snow. there is no sign of water damage to the trailer it self. I have not bought the trailer this whole time because of this. Is the dealer lying to me our could this be tru.
  • thank you everyone. I have moved on, i thought that was alot of Water. The trailer was just a very good price. thanks again, i,m sure there will be more questions to come.
  • Regardless of what the dealer told you, if you go with an HTT you will always need to be conscious of closing up the ends wet, and will need to open them up to dry properly later, if you do have to close them up in rain, or early morning with lots of dew on them. (just like a pop-up). It was a good eye-opener for you.

Nothing wrong with getting an HTT, you just need to be aware of water and closing up for extended periods of time afterwards.

FYI, I'd run from that camper. Even it was snow, it just doesn't sound right! There's a bazillion other choices out "there", keep looking, you won't regret it.
  • My jaw dropped when I read this. How long had it been closed up like that? Either way, I don't see how the water couldn't have gotten through the canvas when it is all folded up. Even if it was for a few hours or a day, I'd pass. There are a lot of dealers that will gladly sell you an HTT that hasn't been mistreated. Is there a reason you are fond of this particular unit? If you give us your specs, I'm sure someone from around here can locate one for you.
  • I've yet to have water pool inside on the canvas with the door closed. To get that much water inside the door, stuck in the canvas, it either leaks or they closed it up with a foot of snow on it. Who in their right mind wouldn't at least knock off the snow? A couple cups I could see, but gallons???

You didn't mention brand or model but I'd pass on this one.

Based on this statement, I would run quickly away from this dealer. They must have idiots working for them if they put the trailer away with that much "snow" trapped on it. I would not believe a word they told me.

We had a HTT before upgrading to our TT this past year and loved it. We really had very few problems with it but to put the bunk ends in with snow on them would have been stupid. It takes a lot of snow to make 3-4 gallons of water so it sounds like they didn't even brush any off before putting the bunk up.
  • Recently on a short camping trip we had to leave the campground before light. It had just started to mist a bit but I didnt think much of it. Well when we got home the next day I opened up the camper and the "mist" had turned into quite a bit of water. I dont know if it was condensation or not but some of it ended up on the inside of the trailer. I was very glad it had not gone long and I didnt just take it to storage. It was no where near 3-4 gallons and it was not in there long.
If your dealer had left that closed up for long it likely could have leaked into the camper and caused some damage. I would look very closely before buying maybe even consider looking elsewhere....
    good luck with your purchase.

  • Find another dealer if possible. This one does not care much for his inventory to put it up like that.
  • HTT = hybrid travel trailer

Hmm - was that the front bunk that had ice & water in it? And how much was there? Many HTTs have the problem of leaking around the seals of the front bunk when traveling in the rain (or I suppose a heavy snow could do it). The dealer may also be right, if they had it open for display and then got snowed upon - but that would be their responsibility to make sure it was cleaned off adequately before closing it - or so it seems to me. I think if I were you that I would look into a few more HTTs around before going for this one. Good luck with your search! We sure loved our PUP - HTT upgrade!
  • I'm just a little confused. What is a "htt"? What brand and floor plan have you been looking at?
