livin Lite UPDATE

Looks like Livin Lite is going through huge changes as predicted when Thor purchased them about a year or so ago. They are private labeling for Ford, and it appears at least from the trailer side getting much heavier and well all pretty on the inside. That includes wood cabinet facings! I was able to get significant changes on ours in 2104 , not sure if they will do custom designs anymore. The former founder and president has stepped down. So, they will always be a different product with aluminum frames, but I submit for those of us who invested in the light weight no wood but fairly crude design, we have very unique gems that will have no comparison. Time will tell where this is all going, and I hope they don't forget how the company was originally founded. I have had mine for almost 2 years, lots of miles and no real warranty issues. She's built like a tank and no surprises...
  • "Prettied up" is not necessarily good. Some of us prefer basic.

We've taken our 2013 Camplite 21BHS all over the place and as you state, it's built like a tank.

So far, the changes are minor cosmetics, and some positives, such as electric/gas water heaters standard, solid surface countertops, better sink, etc. I think some of the weight gain is simply corrections closer to the actual weights. Remember, most things have remained the same; even the cabinets themselves are still aluminum framed, integral to the actual structure of the camper. Hopefully, any additional changes won't go deeper.

However, I am like you; glad I have the "old plain" design; especially the latches on the cabinet doors.
  • I'd think the really good new is that at least one Mfg stepped up and decided to use aluminum framing and structural components. It might be that other Mfg's follow suit and build a trailer that is lighter and better built.

Hope you folks enjoy your Livin' LIte trailers for many happy miles.
  • Take a close look at the 22 Ford trailer. Thor is all about standardized products. Bet that's the way its all going.
  • I have a very early model 5.7 Truck Camper mounted on my mid-sized Dodge Dakota. This is well-built but "cozy" model.

I added a porta-potti for obvious reasons and a small water pump to give better water flow than the original hand pump. Lots of added wall hooks etc. to keep stuff out of the way.

These are well-made models that exactly fit the bill for someone seeking "simple" and avoiding the purchase of an F-250 or larger model that seems to be almost mandatory these days.

My wishes: Aside from a small electric heater, there is no heating in the camper. The electric heater does warm it up at bedtime, if you are in a spot with 120v. Big omission is any way to cook inside. I am still researching that topic for future upgrade.
  • Glad we got our 10.0 truck camper. It's a 2013, few modes but built tough.
  • The ford 22 trailer is is over 5100 lbs and 8.5 feet wide. I love our 7 foot width, the slide makes up for the loss and much easier to tow in traffic etc. It weighs almost 5300lb, vs our 3500lbs. See the specs and its a different breed vs our 21 RBS. Not being critical just an observation. I suspect over time they will default to this type of offering, and ours will be collectable gems. Weight: 5144 lbs.
    Load Capacity: 2456 lbs.
    Hitch Weight: 600 lbs. **
    Grey Water: 25 gal.
    Black Water: 25 gal.
    Fresh Water: 37 gal.
