Load distribution hitch

If within all the specs, not needed, but you may want it to keep from having headlights too high when towing.. you can check the numbers and make judgement on your lights, no engineer needed.

I once trained a guy who was military intelligence, book smart but did not know how to apply his intelligence in a practical everyday way. As you can see in my signature, there is no substitute for experience.

I'm not enamored like a deer in headlights by someone with the title "engineer". These so called engineers designed air bags that shoot metal shards, electronic throttles that stick, and those GM guys designed a great ignition switch. But go ahead and believe that they will fill you in on information that may be to their detriment. Oh and those software engineers at VW? Lets not forget them....

I'm not sure why your ragging on my post - I was trying to give some props to the people on this forum. Must be some disgruntled GM "engineers" in the mix - sorry to ruffle your tail feathers.

So all of the smart A$$ GM guys here know that a GM receiver is rated for a 1000 lbs of dead carry? That's likely to be reached in this situation. If it is then all well and good, but GM doesn't exactly have a good track record on receivers from the past and I believe the GM engineers probably OK'd that too. The OP can do anything he likes but since he was seeking sound advice some of us decided to impart it.

Better take along an anchor too, just in case......

It seems that if their only interest was "covering their butt" they would require a WDH with sway control in all cases.

You already have it and all of its components, so why not use it. GM may say that you're not required to have one, but that's not the same thing as saying that such a hitch would not still be helpful. If the hitch has some form of sway control, integrated or external, it would still be worth while to use the hitch just for that regardless of the truck. You want all the help you can get to help prevent and help get you out of a sway event. When a trailer starts to sway, it will bring even the biggest of trucks down with it. This video was posted last year of a very capable truck towing a trailer. Just watch it and form your own opinion.

Let's see, GM has knowledge from thousands of hours of testing and millions of miles of owner use to base their decisions on. They might be wrong, but I think the odds favor the folks that design and warranty them. Do any of our contributors come up with monetary help if they guess wrong? I didn't think so.

Don't get me wrong, I like these forums and the shared information.

I'd use it rather than leaving it sit on a shelf. Making sure the receiver can take the tongue weight is reason enough (as stated above) because you might not get around to doing that.
