Load e tire pressure

Stupid question. Dealer had to replace one tire on my new camper. Now I have 3 Towmax 225/75/15 load D ST tires and one Load E. Load E usually need 80lbs pressure but should I keep it at 65lbs same as the other 3? I can't find the weight capacity for a load E at 65lbs.

Regarding the original question, I would run the new one at max pressure sine that's where it runs the coolest. It's no big deal to inflate one tire more than the others, is it?

Biggest issues I've found when I hauled for a living is when the trailer has one or two tires with 65 vs 80 psi is the higher pressure tires can slide during hard braking events first especially on the same axle and on wet pavement.

Running one E tire with three D tires isn't the best idea. Operating a E tire at 65 psi in a trailer position isn't the best idea either mainly as it being a heavier sidewall tire it can run hotter than the lighter weight sidewall D tire. At only 65 psi I would watch the tire close for heat checks.

Tire tech for a tow vehicle with tires at the corners vs tire tech for a trailer with tires 2"-3" apart in the center of a top heavy box is apples vs oranges.
  • When aired to 65 psi the LRE tire will have identical load capacity as the same sized LRD tires.

Having to replace one on a new trailer would have been a flag to replace all of them.

I agree. Why did the dealer have to replace the tire?

  • I thought that tires on the same axle should be the same tire, age, etc.
  • Seems odd the dealer would do that. I'd be tempted to run the E at 80# because it will run cooler at the higher pressure, as the others will at 65#.
  • I would not of accepted that. even though its a higher rated tire. Is the tread pattern the same?

IMO its an inconvenience. Plus the pressures are not linear I believe per load range.

Plus an 8ply to a 10 ply tire...
  • Why did they use a mismatched tire?
80 psi is max for the E rated tire. You can run it at 65.
