I like the way you think. I'm in agreement with a poster above who thinks an older Airstream or other aluminum trailer carcass would be the ticket. With form follows function, just shop around until you find the right donor box so you don't have to cut the frame down. Even an aluminum or filon older trailer with the right length could serve as the basis. I've seen it done and it has been carried out well with that crazy 'land yacht' look.
Good luck on your quest. This one really got my brain turning hard seeing different rigs mounted up there, kinky interactive style.
There is a guy over on Expo Portal who bought a new Mil. Spec 6x6 truck that wants to install some kind of camper box up there. He has some interesting ideas.
