Last summer I made my first major trip towing a travel trailer approximately 3500 miles. The only time the winds really bothered me was up in the 35-40 MPH range crosswinds. This past weekend I took a short trip and the 30+ MPH crosswinds wore me out on a 3 hour tow.
A large portion of that trip was in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. I tow a relatively light trailer (3800 lbs), but never really had a problem with my F150 Supercrew towing through the passes. Yes, I went slower but mainly due to the twisting roads. Use your transmission to keep your speed down on the downhill portions rather than your brakes.
As for distance, I love to drive and will usually go 8-12 hours per day, especially when I'm by myself. With others in the vehicle, I try to limit it to 6-7 hours per day.
