As an alternative opinion on the comments above about 300 miles per day (5 hours on the Interstate), I think it depends on your goal. Seeing the scenery along the way is always there and limiting fatigue can be a good goal. However, my wife & I can travel 500-600 miles in a day if we have a destination goal. I can do the 500 mile thing for 2 days straight and then only want a half day to recoup. If I'm awake, sitting behind the steering wheel is as good a place to be as any for me; that's just me. When doing this, we get a campsite long enough we don't have to disconnect the trailer from the tow vehicle. If you have a few weeks to see the Utah parks you'll want to spend most of your time in Utah rather than at both ends of KS. You get to choose what you want to do. Retirement reduces OCD because you have the time to accommodate travel changes but I'm still a destination kind of guy and then enjoy exploring an area in the pickup with day trips using the trailer as home base. We've pulled off and set camp when the wind is too high. Safety, fatigue, and low MPG are the issues; you'll know when it is time to get off the road. Our first ever RV trip was great touring Wyoming for 2-1/2 weeks and that set the hook to keep RVing. Our tow vehicle then didn't have the performance of our current truck but never was a problem in the mountains, just slowed us down a bit. Enjoy your time away from home!
