On long trips the problems that may occur are tire and drivetrain issues. The key to preventing these from happening is good maintenance. Be sure to check the pressure on all tires each morning. You should go on the tire website to determine the correct pressure based on your load, don't depend on the doorjam sticker.
Check oil and transmission fluid levels daily, inspect hoses and belts along the way for unusual wear.
I've driven as much as 500 to 800 miles per day when we had deadlines but prefer 300 or less. We like to stop to see the sights along the way.
As others have said you will know when to stop due to wind. Be careful of side winds coming down gullies or washes. They can be strong enough to push you into the next lane.
