Great topic, thanks for posting. We are looking at starting some massively long trips this year, and I've valued the comments here a lot.
I live about 2,500 above sea level and my gasser has never felt weak. It just relies on the transmission a bit more.
Having said that, I just (this week) bought a diesel. I think the extra towing strength and fuel economy will be appreciated over the coming trips. It's also a lot heavier, so the trailer should "wag the dog" less than the current truck.
Being OCD myself, I'd love to hear some of the things you've done to maximize the safety and comfort of your travels. I'm in "safety OCD" mode right now!
