As an engineer I do a lot of a planning and checking prior to a trip. As a wilderness canoe camper I have learned to take things as they come. This include wind buffets, bad roads, weather etc.
If we plan a 300 mile day and it looks like we are not going to make it; that is just the way it is.
We have found an unscheduled stop to see a sight or other point of interest; far outweighs keeping on schedule. Yes, there are times where we must arrive on schedule but we keep these to a minimum.
Whether we are in a canoe or TT, we figure one duff day for every four days of travel.
