1500 GM trucks don't all come with the same GVWRs/GAWR/tow ratings/engines/trannies. Some are much more capable than others.
Example is GMs NHT package the OP needs.
It gives the truck a 7600 GVWR and 4300 RAWR for more load carrying capacity over a std duty 1500 with a small 6800-7000 GVWR and 3900-4000 lb RAWR.
Top 1500 GM hauler would be NHT package.....420hp/460 torque 6.2 engine....8 speed tranny....3.42 gears (new) or 3.73 on '18 and older trucks with the 6 speed tranny.
So many times we read someone had a terrible towing experience with a 1/2 ton truck. Then we find out it was a older truck with small GVWR/GAWR packages...old low hp/torque v8-v6 engines....4 speed trannies. They simple bought the wrong 1/2 ton for the job.
OP if your determined to stick with a 1/2 ton truck the F150 trucks have a much larger tow and haul capabilities....plus the 3.5 Ecoboost engines can put you in the 20s mpg for that daily driver.
F150HDPP 7850 gvwr and 4800 rawr for 2400-2500 lb in the bed payloads.
Next down 7500 gvwr and 4500 rawr for around 2200 lb payloads.
and a 7050 gvwr with 4050 rawr for approx 1700-1800 lb in the bed payloads.
And at the bottom is a 6800 gvwr and small 3800 rawr for around 1200-1500 lb payloads.
1/2 ton trucks come in many different gvwr and rawrs so choose wisely...then discuss with the dealer what you want, He may learn something ...and you may learn something.
I bought several trucks that I put in commercial service from a truck sales rep. He was a load broker..former OTR O/O so he knew what was needed and what the mfg had to offer.
