My friend has a similar truck..2014 NHT with the 5.3...it has just a few lbs under 2000 lbs of payload. He doesn't tow or haul but it's really a fantastic truck.
I would have no problem pulling a 8k lb trailer with that truck.
I overtrucked when I upgraded from a F150 to a CC Dually for my 7,700 GVWR TT...I have sworn to myself to only get what I need because too much truck is a PITA most of the time...especially the LB CC Dually I had.
Matter of fact I am leaning hard towards a heavy half like the truck you are looking at or a F150 with the Max Tow and max payload features... I want a truck I can live with day in and day out and not just every now and the ...I'm not to the point in my life where a dedicated TV works...I simply do not have enough money to afford a 45k vehicle I drive 3-4 times per year
