The payload on the 2014-up Silverados isn't quite the "weak point" that it used to be.
My daily driver is a 2015 Silverado 1500, run-of-the-mill "grocery getter" with a 3.08 axle ratio. Nothing special. Basic towing options, no heavy tow package, no heavy payload package...
The payload sticker says the truck can carry in excess of 1700lbs of payload. I forget the exact number, something like 1742 or 1719, but it's over 1700lbs.
That's as much or more than many 2500 series trucks.
