The payload sticker says the truck can carry in excess of 1700lbs of payload. I forget the exact number, something like 1742 or 1719, but it's over 1700lbs.
That's as much or more than many 2500 series trucks.
Have you looked at payload capacity of the current 2500 series trucks? They have increased as well. Most have way more that 1700#
I'm not suggesting the OP needs a bigger truck. The OP seems set on his future plans. A 1/2 ton will meet his needs as long as he does not get a larger trailer. It appears the OP has thought extensively about his future plans.
