My short bed with extended cab was great towing a toy hauler trailer even though some people questioned the shorter wheelbase. It does great with my short bed version truck camper too. It is nice to be under 20' long and fit into a standard car parking space when unloaded instead of hanging out into the lot or taking two spaces.
On the negative side, a fifth wheel requires a more expensive sliding hitch or pin extension to avoid cab contact in tight maneuvers and the fuel tank is smaller.
My replacement is coming with a much larger fuel tank capacity and 9' gooseneck flat bed. I will be 3-4' longer than my current setup, but have aspirations of larger things I want to bring on a trip.
